Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming e-commerce from a transactional digital channel into an intelligent, predictive, personalized, and increasingly automated business ecosystem. Machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, recommender systems, generative AI, predictive analytics, and AI agents are changing how firms attract customers, manage operations, optimize supply chains, develop products, and make decisions. This paper examines how AI transformation can unlock business opportunities while contributing to sustainable growth. The study adopts a conceptual literature-based approach and synthesizes recent research on AI-driven business models, e-commerce, consumer behaviour, digital transformation, sustainability, and responsible AI. Eight major opportunity areas are identified: intelligent customer experience, AI-enabled marketing, predictive commerce, smart supply chains, intelligent logistics, AI-supported innovation, opportunities for small businesses, and agentic commerce. The paper argues that AI transformation can support sustainable growth through productivity and economic resilience, resource efficiency and environmental performance, and responsible customer and stakeholder value creation. However, privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, cybersecurity threats, workforce disruption, AI-generated misinformation, digital inequality, vendor dependence, and the environmental cost of computing may weaken these benefits. A conceptual framework is proposed linking AI capability, organizational readiness, customer value, operational intelligence, innovation capability, responsible governance, and sustainable growth. The study concludes that successful AI transformation requires a shift from technology adoption to responsible strategic integration.
