Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as an important technology for transforming modern supply chain and inventory management. Supply chains today face challenges such as uncertain demand, inventory shortages, excess stock, transportation delays, rising costs and changing customer expectations. AI helps organizations address these challenges by using technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision, robotics and intelligent automation. AI can analyse large volumes of historical and real-time data to improve demand forecasting, inventory planning, procurement, warehouse operations and transportation management. In inventory management, AI helps organizations maintain optimum stock levels, reduce stock-outs, identify slow-moving products and automate replenishment decisions.
AI also supports supplier evaluation, risk identification and real-time monitoring of supply chain activities. The application of AI can improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, increase accuracy and enhance customer satisfaction. However, organizations may face challenges such as high implementation costs, data quality issues, cybersecurity risks, lack of skilled employees and difficulties in integrating AI with existing systems. Effective implementation therefore requires reliable data, suitable infrastructure, employee training and appropriate human oversight. The integration of AI with IoT, cloud computing, robotics and advanced analytics is expected to further improve supply chain visibility and responsiveness. Thus, Artificial Intelligence is becoming a valuable tool for creating efficient, flexible and data-driven supply chain and inventory management systems.
